I failed again...

Yes I did! Second time around trying to get the artisan status at Igma. I first thought that I would just hide, stick my head in the sand or whatever, and not blog about my failure. I have come to think otherwise. I will like to show you, not so I can get your pity and hear oh but you are so good but I see a point in not only sharing the golden moments, but also the ones that is not so pleasant but are with me to make me be the artist I am and makes me do the decisions I do. Next time is November 2010 and I will try again!

Here you have the submission. Lobster alone took me 7 hours..go figure!

Bummer. But I think your things are great! Cupcakes look good enough to eat and that lobster looks pretty realistic to me. The Guild usually sends back the reasons they didn't grant "artisan" status. What were their suggestions. I understand they are quite specific regarding scoring. Keep trying...you'll get there!

Wow. I can't see a single thing I could fault with the selections. That lobster is amazing.

Beautiful work as always and such a shame you didn't get IGMA status.
Hold you head high and keep your positive outlook. I understand what you mean and there is no safer place to share your highs and lows than here with people who fully understand.
Wish i was on the board because your minis are perfection. You tick all the boxes for me and a vast majority of other mini lovers!
Best wishes, Nikki xxx

They couldn't have had their glasses on that day!. Your work is amazingly realistic. Try not to be too disheartened, better luck next year. You do deserve artisan status and will get there.

I wonder what the qualifications can be if your work is not for IGMA. Your work is just perfect.
(I would not mind the pancake for dessert) . Keep up your motivation and good luck next year.

So sorry to hear of your disappointment, but don't despair I think they are the most realistic plates of food I've seen and I'm really picky about clay food! The Crepes Suzette are sooooo amazing......and I should know, they are one of my favourite desserts!!Praps you'll be kind enough to let us know their comments......
Keep smiling xxx

Which kind of reason have they given to you this time? may be an orange slice is still floating on the juice? or may be the lobster does not look lively enough ( even though it's dead and bolied)? I have seen far, far worst items in IGMA gallery from sacred artists. I shall not say that your work is good but I could make my day with those loaves and crepes. Chin up!!Hugs Rosanna

Your work is wonderful. Be very proud of what you do! Don't let IGMA or anybody else tell you it's not.

They are, after all, only miniaturists that have formed a club and made up their own rules. Some of the Artisans' work that I have seen is not nearly as nice as yours. Keep up the good work!

Caseymini said...

I forgot to say one thing. You did NOT fail! They did!

Marsha @ Tattered Chick said...

It is all subjective, what they perceive is artisan quality, what they like. What one committee thinks/likes may not be what another committee thinks/likes.

I know this is something you really want and you will achieve it, but to me and countless others, you are a true artisan!

Hugs,
Marsha

Maybe don't think of it as a failure so much as not yet. Your work is exquisite-I am sure you will keep getting better and better and you will be accepted yet. I hope this does not irritate you- but I always say that anything that takes lots of hard work and time to get is always more valuable than something you achieve right away. Hope you know what I am trying to say there. Having said that- all of the food here is wonderful and the salad is amazing! Take care Christel!

May I echo what others are already saying over and over. That you are amazing and that you will get there. I own your breads and pastries, I have seen with my own eyes what you are capable of. I think it is great you are sharing this with us and when you win the status, we will be here to rejoice with you as well. Again, you will get there, Christel :).

Great advice from everyone Christel! Keep your head & confidence up...you WILL make it & when you do, as Kim says, it will be worth so much more to you. You know what I think about your work & I'd love to know what the critique says when you get it! Mini hugs, Linda

This is not so bad after all;) I mean I truly appreciate the comments. Off for a girls night out. Couldn't have come on a better time! You are the best:)

I do not why you do achieve the recognition but I am sure that you know (because all of us already know) that you mini are great and amazing.
I am sure that you will get there. Try it again next November

I don't know what the criteria to become an IGMA artist is... Your work looks always so good. Your selection was great. I love the pancakes and all the rest of course.
Keep on trying, you have nothing to lose. A friend brought me from the States a few years ago a magnet to put on the fridge, on it is written "do the thing you think you cannot do", it's by Eleonor Roosevelt. I often think of this phrase.

I agree with Casey. You did not fail. IGMA failed to recognize your talent.

Your work is absolutely gorgeous. Not only that but the food looks real. Your cupcakes are perfect and the even in the picture I can smell the bread.

IGMA needs to pull the blinders off their collective eyes.

Don't give up! I know, such things make people only stronger. Your work is incredible, you inspire so many people, I can't imagine how flawless you work will be the next year:)

Wow, if your work doesn't meet their standards, then what in the world are their standards?! Your work is phenomenal. I love the cupcakes best.

SCREW IT!! Christel, I have no doubt that you will get it the next time! To be completely honest, there have been times when I've scratched my head over some of the decisions made as far as igma is concerned.

It is just a title. Besides, some of the most beloved miniature artisans (among whom I most admire)aren't even members...and they don't need to be! It is nice, but it's not the be all and end all, for sure. I admire your honesty as well as your work, Christel! Those pancakes in particluar are superb and they have my mouth watering!!

Kate said...

Christel,

I agree with Rosanna and the others. It's a subjective process, just the opinion of fallible human beings who don't always make a good call. Maybe they got up on the wrong side of bed that day!

I think your work is exquisite, detailed and realistic. Looking at your photos makes me hungry. My daughter and I actually made some chocolate chip cookies yesterday; I just had to make cookies after seeing your blog entry!

You'll make artisan status; no doubt about that. Until then, please know that you have a huge group of supporters who each think of you as an Artisan with a capital A!

mini hugs,
Kate in California

That is such a shame. :(

I echo the others in that your work is marvelous.

Good for you for continuing to follow your dreams. :)

Debora said...

As you said, it makes you who you are. You try and fail. You then try again. And again, and again, A rotten process but that's what get you further and makes you grow. I believe that that goes for all of us, even the extreem talented! (and for everything else in live by the way)

If you realy want to persue this I will stand by what Geneviève and many others have said; Keep on trying! I only hope that the reasons, to reject you, are specified and make sence to you... Otherwise this whole process is useless.

All the best, Debora
ps, the outcome doesn't make sence to me; don't see the flaws. But I must mention I wear very strong glasses haha

crepes suzette are a spectacle, if I did not know that your blog is a miniature, I thought it was the work of a cook ....

Christel I feel the same way as all the others who have commented so far. Don't give up if you really want the guild status, but rest assured your work is some of the best I've seen, and I've seen plenty. I am always amazed by how you get the texture of bread and cakes. I hope they gave you some really helpful comments (not critical but constructive). Best wishes and good luck with the next application.
